TLC’s Fleet Investment Programme, Our new 12 -Tonne Tipper with Tail Lift. A great new addition to our Highways Maintenance Fleet.
As part of our ongoing Fleet Investment Programme, we are delighted to announce the arrival of one of the latest additions to our fleet – a new DAF XB 190 12-Tonne Tipper with Tail Lift, which has joined our Highways (Trial Dig/Drainage) Maintenance Team.
The new vehicle represents a significant investment in supporting frontline highway services, providing a versatile and efficient solution for transporting materials, equipment, and supplies across the network.
The new 12-Tonne Tipper replaces the existing 10-Tonne vehicle, offering greater payload capacity and reducing the number of trips required. This will enhance the fleet efficiency, strengthen our Highways Maintenance operations, and deliver improved service provision.
Powered by a 139kW (190hp) diesel engine, the DAF XB 190 forms part of DAF’s modern, award-winning urban distribution range, which has succeeded the well-established LF series. Designed specifically for demanding urban and construction environments, the vehicle combines performance, reliability, and practicality to meet the operational needs of our highways teams.
A key benefit of the DAF XB is its exceptional manoeuvrability. Featuring a tight turning circle and compact 17.5-inch wheels, the vehicle is ideally suited to navigating busy urban streets, confined worksites, and challenging access locations, helping crews work more efficiently and safely.

Enhanced Driver Experience and Safety
The vehicle is equipped with a modern digital cockpit, replacing traditional analogue dials with a fully customisable driver display. This provides drivers with clear, real-time vehicle information and contributes to a more comfortable and user-friendly driving experience.
Safety has also been prioritised, with the DAF XB fitted with a range of advanced driver assistance systems that meet the latest industry regulations.
These include:
- Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS).
- Lane Departure Warning.
- Turn Assist technology.
Together, these features help improve driver awareness, reduce risks on the road, and enhance safety for other road users, pedestrians, and cyclists.
