Celebrating Success – Street Lighting LED Investment Programme

Posted On: 13 Oct 2020

Street-Lighting have recently completed their installation work on an LED (Light Emitting Diode) Investment Programme, to replace 135 columns in areas of Offerton in Stockport.

The scheme has not only supplied new LED lanterns ensuring that the footpaths are well lit in this area, the new LED lights help to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions.

A lot of the lighting along the footpaths in the Offerton Estate had concrete columns, which are inaccessible for tower wagons to carry out maintenance, so our team members normally have to use scaffolding to carry out the work.

Working at height can increase the risks of injury while working. Part of the improvement works during this scheme have included the installation of ‘Raise and Lower’ columns.

The new lowered columns enable our operatives to carry out all future maintenance at ground level, which is safer for everyone. When lowering a column of this type a counterbalance spring attached to the column takes all of the columns weight, and when fully dropped, the work can proceed. (See images below)

Well done to our Street Lighting team for their successful completion of LED Improvement works for Stockport.

This is a large scheme for our Street Lighting team and their work continues to update LED’s and new columns across the borough.
