Totally Local Launches Exciting New Competition

Totally Local Launches Exciting New Competition

Posted On: 20 Sep 2018

This October, Totally Local Company will be asking children in primary schools they work with, to tell us their “New Year, New Me” New Year’s resolutions for 2019.

Attracting hundreds of entries, over the last two years Totally Local Company have asked children to design a festive card which celebrates what makes this time of year special to them.

This year, they’re doing something different.

Their ‘New Year, New Me’ campaign will focus on talking with school children about what they could do better in the New Year; how they can improve who they are as individuals.

For some children this may be as simple as promising to tidy their room once a week or do their homework when they get home from school (instead of watching tv). For others it may be helping with household chores, sharing their toys more, or spending time with elderly relatives.

Jacqueline Shalks, Marketing and Communications Manager at Totally Local Company explains the inspiration behind the campaign,

“The primary years are key years where we teach and imprint behaviours on our future generation of leaders. It’s often easy to get carried away with tinsel and gifts at Christmas. Using the festive season as an opportunity to encourage children to think about how we might be better people – to ourselves and to others, is really important.  Traditional values can often be neglected in the busy, modern life we lead. I’m really looking forward to seeing the New Year’s resolutions the children come up with.  I have no doubt they will make us smile, laugh and feel great pride.”

To support this campaign, Totally Local Company have teamed up with Light Cinema Stockport at the Redrock leisure centre (Stockport’s Red Rock Light Cinema).  Throughout December, the children’s New Year’s resolutions will be displayed in the Light Cinema’s foyer and hung as decorations on their Christmas tree.

Jamie Pitt, Manager of the Light Cinema is very pleased to be involved in the project,

“I was delighted when Totally Local Company approached me about this fantastic idea and Light Cinema is proud to be part of this campaign. I am excited to see what the children  produce and also intrigued to read their New Year resolutions. The team here look forward to welcoming the children and their families when they come to see their Christmas decorations displayed on our tree.”

Entry forms can be downloaded here.

Children can pick one of the designs available on the entry form and colour the design in as they wish (and if they want to, using craft accessories such as glitter and cotton wool). On the back of the design they need to write their New Year’s resolution along with their first name, school and age.

Without cutting out the entries they can be posted to: Jacqueline Shalks, Totally Local Company, Enterprise House, Oakhurst Drive, Cheadle Heath, SK3 0XT. Alternatively, if local schools have many entries, Totally Local Company can arrange for these to be picked up.

Discounts on Family Tickets to the cinema will be given to the top 10 entries and the winning entry will also receive a free private screening at the Light Cinema for the school year.
